Pinoy A-list Actresses

I would like to list down this time the actresses that I followed whose acting talent was often under appreciated.

Pinoy A-list actresses like Vilma Santos, Nora Aunor, Maricel Soriano, Sharon Cuneta, Snooky Serna, Hilda Koronel, Charo Santos, Lorna Tolentino and Dina Bonevie were recognized throughout the years and I am happy that the industry continues to accord them with respect and applause that they deserve.Recent addition to this A-list was Eugene Domingo.

I have nothing against box office stars or prime time soap queens like Bea Alonzo, Jodi Sta. Maria, Sarah Geronimo, Anne Curtis, Angel Locsin, Marian Rivera, Kim Chiu, Heart Evangelista, Liza Soberano and Maja Salvador.

They can hit the soft spots and deliver unexpected portrayal of difficult roles but their personal lives often gets noisier than their last appearance.

Judy Ann Santos and Iza Calzado have that balance which Claudine Barretto, Angelica Panganiban, Erich Gonzales,  and Andi Eigenmann so far have to achieve. Good thing that their acting talent was really bankable. They are actually impressive given the right project.

Here is the list of the actresses that though were visible but I feel happy whenever they can get projects where they can truly shine. They are like fine wine who get better with time.

1. Cherry Pie Picache

In the movie, ang Babae sa Septic Tank, Cherry Pie was imagined as the ideal caring type for a mother role.I can't forget that line and tracing the shows I have watched this actress, she has shown several kinds of characters and all of them were distinct in detail. I can't forget her Mano Po portrayal where she had lisps whenever she speaks, her empowered woman role in Tanging Ina and her confused mother role in Here Comes the Bride.

2. Jaclyn Jose

Never thought that her underacting in teleseryes will reach a different level. Her mother role in Mula Sa Puso was far from the roles she receives today. Her underacting fell into a new brand of comedy that it is the reason why watching her in serious films felt moving.

3. Amy Austria

She's the kind of actress who seldom appears on screen but when she does, prepare to cry. Her films with superb director Marilou Diaz Abaya were traumatizing for me that is why I find watching her on TV a blessing. Love her from Kirara, Pangako sa 'Yo,Mulawin, and Minsan Lang kita Iibigin. Truly a gem who carefully chooses her role well.

4. Jean Garcia

Had she not headlined prime time soaps I wouldn't have appreciated her in Pangako sa 'yo, Majika and Atlantika.

5. Assunta de Rossi

Love her in Pinay Pie.Just like her sister Alessandra, she is a versatile actress -drama, suspense, comedy name it, she can deliver her role well.

6. Alessandra de Rossi

Her Munting Tinig film is my favorite. Whether her role is a villain or a friend of the heroine, Alex doesn't drop her character. She consistently delivers and the scene becomes more entertaining because she was in it.She can be sharp and serious when she wants to and what's more interesting is when she acts funny, she's the first to laugh at her own joke and that was infectious.

7. Angel Aquino

She is so beautiful in Magkaribal. She's one of those versatile actresses who never fails to add value in any narrative, be it a grieving mother, a forlorn wife, a strict boss, a socialite and more. Her beauty is ageless and her portrayal is always memorable.

8. Maricar Reyes

Just like Angel Aquino, she doesn't rely on her beauty to snatch good roles instead she performs as asked. She can be an angel or an enemy but always a spectacle to watch on screen.

9. Ana Capri

She always had these roles that were made better because she was the one who portrayed it.Whether the role was a mistress, a neighbor, a sister-in-law, all those roles often overlooked, Ana Capri can turn that not so important scene into an intense realization.

10. Eula Valdez

I love her in Pangako Sa 'yo and I am hoping that there will be a project wherein she can shine again.

11. Gloria Romero

I admire her that despite her age, she continues to deliver professionally. She never fails to make me cry and laugh.

12. Celia Rodriguez

Same with Ms Romero, her acting is on point whether as a supportive lola or as a suspicious mother. Her presence on the screen adds elegance in any drama.

13. Rhian Ramos

She is one of those beautiful actresses who is not afraid to try challenging roles and I love her because of that. I really wish that she'll not give up on her acting career.

14. Lovi Poe

I am happy that Lovi is constantly seen on tv and most of her projects had challenging roles. I love her a lot in Dalawang Mrs. Real and I really wish that she'll be given recognition for her versatility.

15. Tessie Tomas

Super love her in Abangan ang Susunod na Kabanata, Sa Sandaling Kailangan Mo Ako and Bahay Mo Ba 'to? Miss her a lot on tv.

16. Kaye Abad

Love her a lot on Tabing Ilog and Sa Sandaling Kailangan Mo Ako. She was successful in making noise about her powerful acting in the Tagalog adaptation of Korean drama "The Good Wife'. I really wish that she'll be given another project that would showcase her acting talent.

17. Dimples Romana

She always makes me cry whenever she delivers a monologue that sums up the theme of the drama. I love her comforting vibe in One more Chance, and her transformation in The Greatest Love.
