You Heeyeol's Sketchbook

If there's one South Korean music program that I trust the most, it is You Heeyeol's Sketchbook. This program doesn't allow backtracks. Guest artists were obliged to sing live that their dancing skills cannot compensate no matter how perfect their dance moves are.

Nowadays, fan wars led to removing music from performances of their idols to prove who is the best. This made me addicted to listening to the nearest to their raw voice that I could get that even their radio show appearances cannot be compared since singing to a live band for me is a feat.

You Heeyeol is the MC of the show and I love how he wittingly asks the artists questions that can't be found in other in depth talk shows.His 10-15 minute interview is always filled with remarkable info about the artists.

Here are the clips of the episodes that I love the most.Fortunately, there are MR removed copies on some of the performances.

1. SNSD

a. Party/ Lionheart/Into the New World

Nowadays, these girls were accused of lip synching. It is truly difficult to sing and dance at the same time how much more if the choreo requires them to move a lot in different formations.Some would argue they are only human to have the strength to endure tight schedule of world tours coinciding with their individual filming schedule especially for SM artists. If ever they use pre-recorded vocals for live stages, Sketchbook performances are good reminders of how talented they truly are.

In this MR clip, notice that Tiffany is sick but she cannot skip this guesting. Hearing Yuri, Sooyoung, Sunny, Yoona and Hyoyeon clearly is heaven since TaeTiSeo are well-known as the strong vocal line of the group.

What I like about this song is that Yoona, Yuri, Sooyoung and Hyoyeon got to sing instead of being given only the rap parts.

This is their very first hit song so hearing it live without Jessica is nostalgic.

b. Mr Mr/ Goodbye/ Kissing You

This is their Sketchbook guesting that I truly miss Jessica's unique voice. Her adlibs and high notes are incomparable.

Sadly, the MR clips were in two parts but the listening experience is superb especially on Tiffany's parts.The high notes belted out in this performance are superb. It's been a long time since Genie that they had a song having where they got Taeyeon struggle to hit it. What's more exciting was that compared to The Boys song, Tiffany and Jessica nailed the high parts too.

This Sketchbook performance is one of the best.Proud of Hyoyeon and Yoona who are more recognized with their dancing skill than their singing talent.

In this MR, I miss the blend that Jessica brings to SNSD.

This song seems to be easy to sing along to but hearing them live would make you think the other way around.

Usually, in concerts, singing with gimmicks provide the opportunity for artists to not sing and let the audience sing, an effort that they display as rapport with audience but in this MR, I appreciate their focus to sing their parts at the same time connect with audience.
